As California takes its place as the fourth largest economy in the world in 2025, foreign investment continues to flow into the state. This year 18,963 foreign owned enterprises (FOEs) accounted for 814,102 jobs across the state – an increase of 14,018 jobs from 2024 – paying an estimated $89bn in wages to Californians. As discussion of trade and investment becomes central both locally and globally, the value of international trade, investments, and partnerships is increasingly clear to the golden state. California is North America’s largest trade nexus, its largest manufacturing hub and the most significant center for innovation in the world. The continued growth of investments in the state reflects its continued leadership in these fields, and the growing number of jobs supported by foreign-owned enterprises reflects the importance of these investments to California’s economy
