The Latino wealth gap—the disparity in financial well-being between Hispanic families and non- Hispanic, White families—is a significant and pervasive issue. In 2022, the median net worth of non-Hispanic, White households in the United States totaled $256,000 while the median net worth of Hispanic households totaled only $59,380. In other words, non-Hispanic, White households have roughly 4.3 times the net wealth of Hispanic households.
GPSN, a non-profit intermediary organization focused on improving Los Angeles public education, commissioned LAEDC’s Institute for Applied Economics (IAE) to conduct a study on closing the wealth gap in Los Angeles County. Specifically, the study explores how the region’s nonprofits could help close this gap, potentially with the support of a newly created Latino Prosperity Fund.
