Work-Based Learning: Culinary Arts

LAEDC recently organized a Work-Based Learning (WBL) event at Lynwood High School, focused on Culinary Arts and Hospitality. This event aimed to inspire and guide students toward rewarding careers in the culinary industry.
We are honored to have the support of the Latino Restaurant Association, which will bring renowned Chef Claire Risoli and esteemed restaurant owner Lucy Ramirez Thompson to the event. Additionally, Compton Vegan will be represented by the talented Chef Lemel Durrah.
The event kicked off with a hands-on culinary demonstration hosted by Chef Claire Risoli. Students had the unique opportunity to learn various techniques and recipes, gaining valuable insights into the culinary arts.
Following the demonstration, there was an interactive Q&A panel discussion featuring Chef Lemel Durrah, Lucy Ramirez Thompson, and Rick Jones. This session provided students with the chance to ask questions and learn about the skills and challenges involved in pursuing a career in Culinary Arts and Hospitality.
Approximately 30 students attended, making this an intimate and impactful learning experience. We believe that this event will not only enhance their culinary skills but also inspire them to explore career pathways in the industry.
This was a successful and enriching experience for all participants!
